Gus Crane | Issue. 1

Gus Crane is a guitarist and songwriter from Ellensburg, Washington, driving the sound of Manta, The Black Velvet Band and his own solo work. With ten years of playing behind him, he writes from instinct, starting with riffs and progressions, then letting the lyrics and  melody spill out in a controlled, stream-of-consciousness flow.  Crane’s music leans raw, energetic  and unapologetically honest, shaped by whatever sparks between him and the people he’s creating with. Inspired by forward-thinking modern acts like Geese, Geordie Greep, King Crimson, YWHW Nailgun and other bands pushing alternative rock into fresh territory, he aims for music that feels new without forcing the weirdness.
For Gus, art is inherently political, powerful enough to shake worldviews and open minds; it is  something he carries into everything he
writes and performs.
